ISHINOMAKI BENCH – Maker Pack

もともとは市民の野外映画館のベンチとしてデザインし、石巻工房のワークショップで石巻工業高校の生徒らとともに制作したものです。その後、ハーマンミラー社によるワークショップでは石巻周辺の仮設住宅に暮らす人たちと一緒に25台を制作しました。今回カリモク家具との協働により、石巻工房の図面をそのまま再現するのではなく、落葉広葉樹を用いる事で構造的に成立する厚みを模索し、オリジナルよりもスリムな印象の ISHINOMAKI BENCH となりました。

The ISHINOMAKI BENCH was originally conceived for a public outdoor cinema and first produced through a workshop led by Ishinomaki Laboratory in collaboration with students from Ishinomaki Technical High School. Later, in partnership with Herman Miller, 25 pieces were built together with residents living in temporary housing in the Ishinomaki area. In collaboration with Karimoku Furniture, we revisited the ISHINOMAKI BENCH years after its original release. Rather than reproducing the drawings as they were, we refined its proportions and thickness using solid hardwood. The result is a renewed bench with a slimmer, more refined presence, while preserving the spirit of the original.
